its for throw ins and sliding when going to ground, but unfortunately some might be for a fashion statement, and we know what sarong wearing trend-setter we can blame that on.

AND WILL YOU SELF-CENTERED AMERICANS READ THE CATEGORY FOOTBALL(SOCCER)>GENERAL-FOOTBALL(SOCCER)

DO YOU SEE IT AT THE TOP LEFT-HAND SIDE ITS THERE SO WE DON'T MIX IT UP WITH HAND-ODD-SHAPED-BALL-QUESTIONS !!!

It is usually the wide receivers, and sometimes, the running backs with the gloves. It is for a better grip of the ball, whether it is due to the cold or rain. There are different patterns on the palms of the gloves for grip.

The short sleeves give the opposing defense less to hold on to when chasing an offensive player with the ball. All the linemen will wear short sleeves, no matter the weather. Again, it gives less to hold on to while trying to move the player from his position on the field.

Just to inform others, the question is referring to soccer....

Gloves - to keep your hands warm.

Short sleeve tops - The body will get hot running around, even in cold weather (though the ears, hands, toes etc. will not - hence the gloves!), and you still want to cool off. If you wear long sleeve tops you run the risk of getting hot quickly and not being able to cool off.

Hope this helps

I think that the reasons that they wear those are:

1: the gloves are for better grip.

2: They wear short-sleeves because they don't want to get too hot while running.

Is this not about the fact that when you are cold it's your extremities that suffer first. Therefore keeping one's feet warm with socks and hands warm with gloves will warm you up as your body first directs heat to your vital organs. That's why people get really cold hands and feet. This is more extreme in women, but is also true of men.

Some of those gloves that are made help them catch and hold on to the ball..some type of grip on the palm of the glove.

lineman where gloves to keep from brusing their knuckles...

receivers where gloves that make it easier to catch (they are sticky)

I played TE, and regularly switched gloves when I knew a big pass play was coming up and I had to make a big grab. However, most of the other times I kept the thick gloves on.

Theyre not really worn for warmth, unless you play in a cold atmosphere.
