Question:
MLS all star game. Why do people still give excuses.?

We just finished the all star game and the same excuses are being thrown about. It is only an exhibition, they are not in form, they don't care, etc. I would love someone to give me a educated reason why people keep using these excuses.

If the EPL is that great than they should have no problem sending scrubs over to destroy the MLS all Star team. The players on the squad are at best L1 status, right?

From watching I did not see any loafing around when the run was on. People still sweating, yelling and screaming. Now it is not a champions league knock out round. But even so the superior league should be able to thrash the pretend league, right?

I have watched the last 3 and in all the MLS has controlled most of the action. Last nights game could have easily been 5-1 or worse, not the other way around. West Ham was dominated 65-70 percent of the game. Mind you, most of the field were regulars.

So please explain to me why this superior league cannot win one of these?

Well I'm glad I found someone other than me that thinks the MLS its a good league and still growing to become one of the top leagues in the world, now to answer some of your questions,I think people try to make excuses, let's face it the MLS is a great league and still growing,if you play this sport (futbol, football, soccer) you know better than anyone else you play to WIN period, you don't play to loose or tie.I've been following this league since day one and believe me it has grown a lot,I heard some people say "well W.Hamm is not even that great",I agree, they finish 10th last year in the EPL,hopefully next year Manchester,Arsenal or Liverpool want to consider this game....I guess I'm just sick and tired of people trashing the MLS and making excuses for them selfs instead lets give the league the credit it deserves and like a true soccer, football, futbol player will know, there is no crying in this game.

You stated: "As for all who say it is just pre-season. I understand your thoughts on this but it is still retarded. Obviously none of you have played competitive sports before. You might as well said the US lost to England because it was a friendly."

Well I can guarantee you I have played competitive sports and the MLS did have an advantage over West Ham. During pre-season competitive team focus primarly on conditioning and once that is done then they play matches to get some game rhythm going. Well after you're done with conditioning your muscles are quite stiff and it takes awhile for them to become loose that is the advantage the MLS had over West Ham and all the other teams who have to play them in recent years.

Also people are correct when they state the whole injury fear. If you saw the Superliga a few Mexican players were injured since they tried to go one on one with the MLS teams but their muscles weren't ready so they pulled something so now they are out for the first few weeks of the tournament. Do you think a team from the EPL wants to risk something like that were every point counts? No I don't think so.

I agree that the MLS has grown quite well in its level since a decade ago but since it has beat EPL teams in the last recent years doesn't make it a world class league either. Also the MLS is using its best players while you bring a "weak" EPL team with many subs to face the All-Star team.

"You might as well said the US lost to England because it was a friendly"

The US level of play has nothing to do with this. In the first goal its was a play that started with Beckham to Blanco then finally to Gomez which I believe none of them are from the US. And the other two goals same thing. And last years match the same thing happened the scorers weren't from the US. So please don't bring the US into this.

"But even so the superior league should be able to thrash the pretend league, right?"

This statement doesn't apply to this situation. I guarantee you if the EPL teams were in mid-season form and they faced MLS teams most of the games would have been won by the EPL teams. This wasn't a game between MLS Vs EPL but a game between MLS All-Stars agaisnt West Ham. Have an EPL All-Star team face an MLS All-Star team and I guarantee you the EPL team will most likely win.

It's only a warm up game so players aren't going to try very hard obviously. Most of West Ham's lineup are quite a low standard for the premier league and are by no means the same standard as those who will play during the season. Below are players who would start during the season.

Freddie Ljungberg

Matthew Upson

Valon Behrami

Jonathan Spector

Craig Bellamy

Mark Noble

Lee Bowyer

To be honest with you, the main reason why they didn't win is because they didn't want to win, if it meant sacrificing even a little bit of energy, risk of injury, fatigue or whatever by the time the premiership season comes.

Don't get me wrong the MLS side is quite talented, but you could take an all star team from England,Scotland, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and it would beat the MLS team in a competitive match.

In Conclusion, a team can win one of these games but they just can't be arsed to put it bluntly.

Listen up little boy.... Atletico Madrid came to Mexico this summer and did not win a single match in its 4 game tour against Puebla, Cruz Azul, Tigres & Toluca... yet you don't see any Mexicans claiming that those teams are the equal much less better than A. Madrid... even though the Mexican teams are also in pre-season. The facts are:

> The games were on Mexican soil... more pressure on the Mexican teams than on A Madrid

> A Madrid had to deal with travel fatigue

> A Madrid is 4 weeks behind the Mexican teams in terms of Pre-Season prep... and all of us who have played competitive really understand the difference it makes.

We understand that pre-season results don't really reflect on the relative strenghts of a Top Four La Liga team versus our mid table Mexican league teams.

Further... we at least had 4 games to observe and validate our team's results... not a single game with all the travel implied..... still we aren't going to fool ourselves in to thinking that Puebla & Cruz Azul could be put in La Liga and finish near the top of the table.

i would just like too see the EPL all stars vs. the MLS allstars....just to see if the MLS will win 5 in a row....i seriously doubt it....

dude like other people on here, for EPL teams, this is a pre-season, but most of all they cash in big in these games. MLS is growing but its not even close to any of the top european leagues......

i would just like to bring up the point that west ham has been playing together much longer than the mls-allstars had to train together to get prepared for the match for all you people making excuses. the mls allstar team also is much like any team over in europe, made up of the best players it can get. but i do believe the EPL is a stronger and better league than the mls hands down, however the mls is greatly improving year in and year out.

That would be sooo cool like an NBA all star weekend how about they get a legend, A female a player that is not on the all star team and have like a little three v three that would be soo cool!!!! I would love to see a free kick contest and a juggeling contest, I saw De Rosarrio juggle before the Union Game and I was impressed with his skills

Lets see then, what if they played the best of the EPL in mid season 2. that wouldnt be much of a match

I agree with most of the reasons given, but also I think if you put them against some teams like Madrid, Man U, Liverpool, Milan, the MLS would probably not win.

It's a pre season game and it seems to me that most of the Premiership players don't really care. Just a chance to get a game under their belts.

They don't even compete for the sort of balls they would in the Premiership or a cup competition because they don't want to pick up injuries so close to the start of the season.

i agree the mls deserves more credit but still i wasnt impressed by them at least not in this game.

west ham is not even a great team mediocre players in offseason mode. mls played with their stars.

also the reason u gave are true (except for them not caring)

so theres really nothing else to be said.

dude im happy for the mls showing that we are not a pretend league and west ham fully and utterly got owned

to those people who say west ham did not bring a full squad or if it was a better team like chelsea they would have won i say to you that is lies

beacuse that nube who answeres 3rd said chelsea or manu would have won easily but i wonder what happeneed two years ago

OH thats right the mls beat chelsea 1:0 OH and a year later they beat the scotish champs celtic 2:0 so people go check facts before answering

and two the guy who answered before me

that wouldnt be fare since mls all star are onlty from one country and one team from another country(canada)

besides the chelsea team that gotta owned was pretty much a european all star team for the most part

the answer is that westham is not a very good team. the MLS is using the best it has to offer, against a mediocre ELP team. Against a world class team like Man U or Chelsea, I think the ELP would easily show its superiority.

i think the US will have to win the World Cup in order to get any respect on the world stage. every time the USMT plays the announcers are like 'this is a big chance for American soccer to prove itself to the world...' then we win and still get no respect. in fact, our FIFA ranking drops.

of course, i'm talking about national soccer, but it's the same with the MLS. we are competing at the same level as the Mexican club teams in the Superliga (GO DYNAMO!), and people still talk down about the MLS. we're no Premiere League, but we have improved by leaps and bounds and get very little credit for it.
