Question:
Mexico Vs. United States. What are your honest opinions on the game?

First of all. I don't want to take away the credit from the United States. They played, they created a few chances, and took advantage of the them in order to go away with the win.

Now, on the other hand, Mexico dominated the game in field play. This is the part that really bothers me. People do not acknowledge the fact that Mexico outplayed the United States, creating more plays. Unfortunately, Mexico couldn't capatalize on the chances they had, and the United States did, which is why they won the game. Soccer isn't about who plays better, but about who scores, and that's the scenario we've got on our hands. I personally believed that Mexico played an amazing game despite only practicing a few days. I'm not upset they lost the game. I'm upset because people don't look at it like it is. I respect it, of course. Just the "closed-mindedness" gets to me sometimes.

What are your opinions on this matter?

Another disappointing loss by Mexico. I think their losses to the US are psychological more than anything else.

I feel that Mexico did have more control over the game and I particularly liked their rhythm towards the end of the first half. Hugo Sanchez should have built on that momentum but instead made 3 substitutions. In my opinion there should have only been one substitution, Guardado for Morales. His other two were a mistake. The skilled and crafty veteran, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, was creating smart and effortless passes while "Venado" Medina's speed and energy was causing trouble for the Americans. I would have liked to see what the combination of Blanco,Guardado and Medina could have produced. Also, Hugo needs to play Memo Ochoa as goalkeeper instead of Oswaldo Sanchez. Memo is the future and Oswaldo is the past. Oswaldo really showed that he is now a step too slow. I give credit to the US for capitalizing on their goal scoring opportunities but I really feel that a younger Oswaldo could have saved those goals. Ochoa on the other hand is capable of making spectacular saves. He has also recently saved 4 of the last 6 penalty shots against his club. However, I do realize that this was Hugo's first game and that it is a learning process. I am confident that once the Mexicans gain more team chemistry and Hugo perfects his lineups they will have more success.

One thing that I must mention that upsets me is how US Soccer fans claim that the US team is the true superpower of CONCACAF because of the rivalry record. This is simply not true. The record is deceptive because the US has not played in Mexico in recent history. It is true that Mexico has not won against the US in the last seven encounters but every game was played on US soil. I wish the US would stop making excuses and play in Mexico! Countless international teams including Brazil, Italy and England have the confidence to play at Estadio Azteca, why doesn't the US? The reason is because it's easier to show off a misleading record rather than having to contend with the reality of playing as a visitor at a difficult venue. The US has never defeated Mexico on its own soil and the Americans know that. The US is great at defending their own territory, as they should be but before people start making declarations the US should step up and play outside their "comfort zone". Until there is a balanced and fair division of games between the two countries the US cannot claim anything.

P.S. That bogus offsides call against Borgetti in the first half saved the US from an early 1-0 deficit.

Both teams played a great game, and the United States had a great goal, but the last goal was bad, that goal should not have counted enen though it did. And it is true that Mexico has lost a lot of games on U. S. A. soil but it is the same with Mexico going against The United States in Mexico, in the toughest stadium to play in, Estadio Azteca(which is on a mountan top filled with smog in Mexico City). Mexico always wins in Mexico. And just wait untill the Gold Cup, Mexico will win it like last time in 2003 beating Brazil. Next time The United States will play on Mexico's turf and the outcome will be Mexico beating The United States, just like last year.

I saw it cried about it and moved on. Just like in the world Cup 02 where I bet my life and celebrated before the game on Mexico finally advancing the semi's. It was the same bull$#it as that game. ATTACK attack and ATTACK some more. What the hell was that, by the 30th minute our midfield was hoffing and puffing and couldn't cover the flanks. We don't play that way agianst the powerhouses, we test the waters and pick and choose where to strike instead of going balls out to try and shove is down their throats. The US countered and covered, boring but got the JOB DONE period. Mexico dominates and shows nothing for it. Its about finishing and our mexican team has never been able to finish when it counted. Why are we so surprised the US is beating Mexico? Those of you who still believe MEXICO dominates the US is mistaken. We keep seeing it every time they play. Some of you mentioned that US does not do well when playing powerhouse teams, and Mexico does, Why do you think? It is simple...Mexico has a mutual respect for other teams like BRASIL, ARGENTINA, or any EURO team with credibility. Mexico has no respect for the american side. It does not want to acknowledge that US soccer has made leaps and bounds in the last 20 years. The US team may not do well against powerhouse teams ie:world cup 06, but that's because they did not have to play its cousin next door who no longer has any new tricks up his sleeve.

The key to mexico success will be to respect his opponent regardless if its US, Brasil or Trinidad and Tabago.

I think there are many factors that contribute to this game. Mexico only trained a few times, US didnt have whole team and didnt have a set coach. Mexico did play pretty well but like you said didnt capitalize on their opportunities. After the first goal Mexico's head went down until another opportunity that they had later in the game and then they realized that they could tie it.. So it was good for awhile and then a pass right into the ref causing a deflection made a second goal... that donovan had to basically go through 3 people then the goalie for. Thank god he didnt screw it up i figured he would b/c he is horrible. Basically I think that Mexico did pretty well but they weren't consistent through out the game... If US had coach and whole team and Mexico practiced a little more what do you think would have happened? My guess? Probably the same thing...

I'm not trying to start an argument here, but it does bug me when people always say that a losing team 'played better' than the winning team, because where it's most crucial--scoring--they didn't. A win is a win is a win, however unpretty it is, and however much the opposition thinks they should have won. And I'm not saying you've said this, but many people, when their team loses, go into complete denial and insult the other team.

I thought the game was good. Mexico is a good team, and I think they were surprised by the quality of the American side.

It is only a friendly match, and doesn't count in any true standings, but still, it is a guage of where the two clubs are at now. I wish they could play again soon, so we could lay this argument to rest now!

Speaking strictly as a fan of US Soccer, and viewing the memories of my own playing days through rose colored glasses...

- I don't necessarily agree that Mexico dominated. I certainly don't think the Americans outplayed the Mexicans, but I do feel that "domination" implies that there's a tangible result. Lacking any match information in front of me, the only result I have to go by is the final score.

- From my point of view, I didn't think either side played well. The Americans struggled frequently to put anything together, and the Mexicans also had periods where two or three passes in a row was the exception, rather than the rule.

- As was mentioned: Finishing, capitalizing. As frustrating as it may be, a soccer fan from any side must admit the corner kick score was a technical and aesthetic beauty. I'll not refer to the second any more than to say, $#!+ happens now and then.

- It's been argued that Sanchez was in his first game; Bradley is obviously miles ahead, having been at the helm for...one game previously. It's been argued that the Mexicans were out of shape and out of sync; a similar case could be made for the MLS players in their off-season.

- I've already rambled on far too much, but to conclude: a win is a win. The only significance I can place upon this game is something akin to baseball's spring training or NFL's pre-season. Things will change, for better and for worse, for both squads.

We've all heard this before. I once watched the US totally dominate field play only to lose to the Germans on set pieces. Hey, fact of the matter, your defenders have to be very dominant and cannot make mistakes. The midfielders and the forwards can turn the ball over dozens of times, and nobody cares. But these same people fly off the handle when a defender makes a mistake. Defense Wins Championships!

The US also dominated field play against the Italians, but look who won the World Cup!

mexico should of won usa hella cheated even though the first goal was good the second goal in the last goal of the play the ref accendently blocked a pass from bexico and kicked it to usa on purpose and the play was offsides but the game was just a friendly just wait untill its a game that really counts mexico will win

I think the second goal was not fair. It was the referee's fault not the player's fault. They should not have counted that goal. But the referee is part of the field so oh well. Now Mexico vs. U.S.A are 28-13

i do agree with you on that! mexico did outplay u.s.a! thoes 2 goals where just luck from being a coner kick !and the other from hiting the goaly! it hapens alot in games in the heat of the moment they try so hard that they slip up and make a mastike. but you have 2 understand this is mexico first game with a new coach and there geting familiar with there new stratagys i belive there going to make a better improvment in the long run! hope this helped you out!

What's with all the dissertation-like answers? Both teams are mediocre at best. I fell asleep watching the game. Who cares - neither Mexico nor United States will never even make it to the semifinals of any world cup!

so wat if U.S had been training for a longer period, Mex had all of their stars and they have more experience compared to most of the players on the U.S squad..9 of the players from the mex. squad that played were on the WCGermany roster so they cannot say U.S had an advantage..the majority of the americans play in the MLS and the season has been over for a while already..mexicans on the other hand have been training wit their clubs whos season has already started...

mexico did dominate and i give them credit for that, but why cant they admit defeat and stop making excuses? is it luck that they have only beaten us once in da last seven yrs?..i dont think so. this shows that U.S soccer has come a long way
